The WDRL (World Dirt Racing League PolyDome Late Model Series) made its first-ever stop at Alexandria's Viking Speedway on Tuesday, August 8, 2006. 30-some late models gathered to do battle on the long half-mile, and 50 laps later the guy they call "The Iceman", Jimmy Mars of Menomonie WI had the five-grand in his fist for the second night in a row. Marion, Iowa's Chris Simpson came in second. Link to the WDRL website here. All in all, a great night of racing... let's just forget about the nasty Midwest Mod tangle on the back stretch. (Most of the drivers involved would like to!) Kudos to Chris Stepan's F-Y-E Motorsports Promotions and the crew at Viking for bringing the big dogs to town. Woof.... grr-rrrr...
